Jamaica Inn

Marooned motorists sleep on our floors!

February 01 2019

What a night!  Now we have a second to breathe, here's a debrief of what happened at Jamaica Inn on the 31st January 2019.  Early evening with the snow falling thick and fast we saw the few rooms we had available quickly booked up.  Hearing news of the roads shutting down we set up 15 spare mattresses in our Pedlars restaurant and posted across our social media that anyone stranded ...

Refurb of bars and restaurant completed

January 29 2019

A complete refurbishment of the bars and restaurant was finished just in time for Christmas. In lower Pedlars Restaurant we replaced the modern windows with period ones to match those at the front of the Inn, and created a massive old-looking fireplace built in traditional Cornish style – the granite slab mantlepiece alone weighs 1.1 tons and has come from Bradstone Mill near Launceston. The fireback...

Happy New Year!

Best wishes for 2019 from us all at Jamaica Inn!

Refurnishing the bars and restaurant

September 23 2018

In December new ‘period’ furniture will replace most of the existing furniture in the bars and restaurant except for the old settle seating in the bars which is full of character and to be kept and refurbished. Everything is aimed at retaining the character and 1750s appearance of this lovely old Inn.

Pedlars Restaurant to look older

September 23 2018

This autumn the lower part of Pedlars restaurant is having its 30 year old modern glass wall overlooking the garden replaced with a wall similar to the 1750’s front wall of the bar – very thick, rough plaster finish and with recessed windows for the great views. Also this large area is to have a focal point that it currently lacks – a massive log burning traditional Cornish fireplace similar...

Wonderful wildflowers!

September 20 2018

The wildflower seeds we included in recent landscaping work have grown to produce a stunning display!  See the beautiful photos on our Facebook page from artist/illustrator Nicola Plummer.  Thank you Nicola!

Fully restored to its 1930's condition!

August 15 2018

The K6 GPO telephone box stood on the corner across the road from Jamaica Inn from the 1930's until 1990 when it was removed by BT and bought by the Inn.  For the past few months we've been sourcing all original parts to fully restore the interior and now we're delighted to say you can see it in all its glory as you enter the restaurant from the main car park!

Landscaping

July 07 2018

Following completion of the 16 new rooms at the Inn last Autumn, the area outside has now been landscaped and grass is growing through. The seed mix included wild flowers, which should add a splash of colour to the breathtaking views across the Moor.

Old Phone Box

July 07 2018

The old decommissioned red phone box at the Inn has now been refurbished, moved and permanently installed outside the Pedlars Restaurant. Previously just the red box but soon full original workings complete with A and B buttons and handset will be installed. It is the original K6 model, that stood on the corner opposite Jamaica Inn, installed by the Post Office some time...
